Holes are drilled in paper for many reasons, but the most common reason is to facilitate filing of the drilled paper in two or four hole ring binders. Other applications are filofax drilling patterns and the American three hole pattern. The most adaptable paper drilling machines have a hexagonal programme bar installed under the table. This allows the user to switch through six different programmes by simply rotating the bar. The drilling machine spins the hollow paper drill in order to cut through the paper or card. The waste paper is forced up the inside of the hollow drill and into a collection container.
